Quick Answer

Is wired or wireless nurse call better?

The short answer

Neither is universally better. Wired (like Jeron Provider) fits new construction and high-acuity units with decades-long component life. Wireless (like RCare) fits retrofits and occupied buildings where opening ceilings is the expensive part. Both carry UL listings. The right answer comes from your building's construction and care model.

When wired wins

  • New construction — cabling goes in before drywall at minimal incremental cost
  • High-acuity hospital units with dense, constant call volume
  • Facilities that want zero battery management over the system's life

When wireless wins

  • Occupied SNFs and assisted living — infection control makes opening ceilings painful
  • Retrofits where legacy cabling is deteriorated or undocumented
  • Communities that want mobile caregiver apps and real-time response analytics from day one

The hybrid reality

Many Illinois facilities run both: wired Jeron in nursing units, wireless RCare pendants and wander management across the community. One vendor designing and supporting both under one contract removes the finger-pointing problem entirely.
