Commercial Comparison

UniFi Access vs. Traditional Access Control

Compare credential workflows, video context, integrations, offline operation, and serviceability.

Plan your project

Start with the door schedule

Compare UniFi Access and the alternative controller against the same door-by-door schedule: openings, locking hardware, readers, request-to-exit devices, power, and required interfaces. Have the responsible professionals confirm compatibility and the applicable egress requirements for each opening. Do not select a controller first and assume that existing locks or life-safety interfaces will work without additional design or replacement.

Demonstrate the credential lifecycle

Walk through issuing a credential, changing access, handling a visitor, and removing a departing user. Include schedules, administrator roles, audit review, and any requested video or identity-system integration. Ask each supplier to demonstrate these workflows on the proposed system and identify third-party dependencies. Compare the ongoing tasks your staff must perform, not simply the number of supported credential types.

Test failures and service responsibilities

Document the required behavior at every affected door during a controller, network, or power interruption, with an approved test plan before commissioning. Assign responsibility for batteries, hardware adjustments, credential issues, and software changes. Choose the proposal that proves the required door behavior and gives facilities and security teams a clear service path; a platform label does not establish safe operation for an opening.
