How do you plan wander management?
The short answer
Start by mapping the areas the facility wants to monitor and documenting how authorized staff will assign devices, receive alerts and manage changes. Have the facility’s qualified reviewers establish the operating requirements and review any proposed door interfaces. Then evaluate configurations, agree on acceptance scenarios and assign training, response and maintenance responsibilities before rollout.

Review the workflow with the facility team
Discuss normal operations, visitors, resident transfers, shift changes and planned building alterations without putting personal resident details into public forms. Record who can change assignments and who owns each alert destination. Keep facility policy decisions separate from equipment configuration so reviewers can see which questions still need an authorized decision.
Validate a defined pilot
- Mark included zones and exclusions on the same plan used for installation
- Agree on representative acceptance scenarios with qualified facility reviewers
- Check the selected notification paths and document unresolved issues
- Train designated staff on approved operation and fault-reporting procedures
- Confirm maintenance records, service contacts and ownership before expanding the rollout
